This vintage Flying Colors Ceramic Pastel Flowers necklace features five daisies in white, blue, and pink. If this doesn't put you in the mood for spring and summer flowers, nothing will! The rest of the necklace are white round beads with a few blue and pink round beads as accents. Flowers were one of the favorite motifs of the interrelated companies of Flying Colors, Parrot Pearls and Ruby Z.
Measurements: The necklace flowers are approximately 1.5 inches wide and 1.25 inches tall (the two end flowers are a bit smaller). The necklace is 18.5 inches (47 cm) long with a screw together barrel clasp.
Condition: It is in excellent vintage condition. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an essential part of the description.
Marks: A heart shaped bead next to the clasp reads "Flying Colors." It dates to 1980's - early 1990's.
Company History: Parrot Pearls was founded in 1975 in San Francisco. Their trademark, easily recognizable pieces are ceramic jewelry in whimsical shapes such as animals, flowers, and incorporating colorful beads made into necklaces and pins. Their attention to detail and creativity make them works of wearable art. Parrot Pearls split off in the 1980's into Flying Colors (run by former Parrot Pearl employees) and into Ruby Z, owned by two of the original founders of PP, Bean Finneran and Candace Loheed. All three companies have been featured in collectors' books such as Ann Mitchell Pitman's "Inside the Jewelry Box, Vol. 2" (pages 7 -13) and Kathy Flood's "Warman's Jewelry Guide, 4th Ed." (pages 219 - 221).
NOTE: We always have a good selection of the necklaces from all three companies. Put the word "ceramic" into my shop search, and you can see them all!
