This vintage Ruby Z Ceramic Thunderbird Necklace was designed by Candace Loheed. The necklace features two impressive and fierce thunderbirds facing each other, done in pastel shades of lavender, been yellow and purple, with black and white stripe and polka dot accents. This theme carries into the tube beads where the long beads are black and white stripes with pastel disk beads. Although they did a lot of bird necklaces, this is the first stylized thunderbird necklace of theirs I have seen.
The necklaces produced by the related companies of Parrot Pearls (the original), Flying Colors (the spin off) and Ruby Z (the reorganized PP's) are so unique and creative; my customers love them and have seen their value dramatically increase! I have been collecting and selling jewelry from all three companies for several years now and greatly appreciate the sophistication and detail in their work.
Measurements: The necklace is 20.5 inches long with a screw type barrel clasp. The center birds are large: 4.25 inches tall and 2 inches wide.
Condition: The necklace is in excellent condition with a normal amount of crazing to the ceramic finish. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
Marks: A bead next to the clasp says "© RUBY Z" and the other side says "Candace Loheed." The book "Inside the Jewelry Box, Vol 2" by Ann Mitchell Pitman has a profile of Parrot Pearls, Flying Colors, and Ruby Z (all inter-related companies). Ruby Z jewelry dates from the 1980's to mid 1990's.
NOTE: We are huge fans of Parrot Pearls, Flying Colors and Ruby Z - check out the other pieces we have in our inventory - do a shop search on any of these names and they will all show up. They often "fly" out the door!
