This signed DeMario brooch features a center design of pink beads, a large, light blue rhinestone, and offshoot "leaves" covered in rows of small, faux white pearls. The leaves extend in various, random directions - giving the pin an organic look. It can be worn in virtually any direction. This brooch reflects that desirable "Haskell style" with its faux, small pearl rows, gold tone leaf accents peeking from below, and intricate bead work. It is a real beauty reflecting a unique style!
Measurements: The pin is 2.5 by 1.75 in. (6.4 X 4.5 cm)
Condition: This pin is in good vintage condition, better than usually seen with these older pieces in this style. The faux pearls are hand wired to the leaves, and in one leaf, the wire is a bit loose and could be slipped off (the rows of faux pearls are in place, but can be moved by hand). Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
Marks: The pin is signed "DeMARIO N.Y." on a cartouche in the center back with no copyright symbol, which dates this pre-1955. It is done in the style of Miriam Haskell from the mid 1940's - early 1950's. In fact, DeMario worked for Miriam Haskell during the early 1940s and many of his designs, like this one, are quite similar to hers. DeMario's jewelry often used glass beads, faux pearls and rhinestones. DeMario opened his own company in 1945 and closed about 1965. Production was limited and high end quality, making his pieces particularly collectible.
