This rare New York Creation Dress Institute black velvet dress from the 1940s - early 1950s era is in wonderful condition! The dress is made of super soft black velvet with a beige crocheted lace bib collar, accented with 4 black velvet colored buttons. It also has two scooped style, shallow front pockets, edged in more of the crocheted lace. There is a side zipper and four vertical front tucks to add shape to the silhouette. This dress would also be perfect for a historic house or museum wanting to showcase the styles of a bygone era.
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1940 as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. Its purpose was to advance the sales of dresses and clothing made in New York by promoting the city as the fashion center of the country. The New York Creation label was used to identify the products of members.
