This is a rare, vintage signed (Catherine) Prevost gold toned leaf with a dangling acorn. The oak leaf has a small faux pearl, the acorn has a gold tone cap and a large faux pearl as the acorn bottom. Catherine Prevost began creating costume jewelry with her mother, Anne, with the ACP hallmark and then switched over to the Prevost hallmark when she went solo.
I love jewelry that delivers a message. The acorn is a Nordic and Celtic symbol of life, fertility, and immortality. Oak leaves represent strength, stability or nobility. When oak leaves and acorns are combined, the entire symbol can stand for power, authority or victory. Now that's a message!
Measurements: The brooch is 1.75 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall (4.5 by 6.4 cm) with a slightly angled, vertical pin back.
Condition: The pin is in excellent vintage condition. There is a spot of metal wear where the acorn hangs from the top leaf. There are some marks towards the top of the acorn pearl - they seem to be done in a pattern, so one assumes they were done on purpose. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
Marks: It is signed "PREVOST" with the copyright symbol. Catherine and Anne Prevost created costume jewelry in the mid 1980's that was sold in high end department stores. Catherine began a solo career in the early 1990's (which I believe is the date of this pin), based in London. Her boutique shop opened in Knightsbridge in 1997 with a focus on gems natural stones. Her client list included celebrities such as Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sara Jessica Parker. She closed up shop in 2007 and now limits herself to private shows and pop-up shops.
