Antique Silver Plate Nautilus Shell Spoon Warmer c.1880
This wonderful silver plate model of a nautilus shell is an English Victorian spoon warmer. A spoon warmer was part of every well equipped kitchen in Victorian times. The kitchens were often far from the dining rooms so all means were used in the attempt to keep food warm until it was served. Spoon warmers were filled with boiling water to keep serving spoons at the right temperature to serve hot foods. This warmer was made by Henry Wilkinson & Co. of Sheffield, England and retailed by Goldsmith's Alliance Limited. The base can be removed by a wing nut to aide in cleaning. Measurements are approximately 6" wide, 5.5" tall.
This piece is in very good condition with only minor signs of use. No obvious plate wear, dents or other damage. Use it for warming spoons, as a decorative accent or perhaps as a vase for flowers. These are wonderful on display.
I also have an oyster shell spoon warmer in my shop.
