Beautiful hand painted 18th century French folding fan in box frame. Wonderful painted genre scene with women and children in the landscape along with their sheep, dog and birds. The leaf is likely vellum, but I have not opened the frame to verify this. The sticks are bone with pink foil behind the openwork on the guard stick. Clear paste stone at the rivet.
The gold box frame has the label of JJ Patrickson, Chelsea, London. The frame looks to be early 20th century, perhaps 1910s. Condition is overall good.
The fan has repairs at its center area. Look closely at the photos, you will see patching above the sticks and hand sewn seams. The frame has chips. One section of the bow has cracked, but the internal wire still holds the bow in place. Overall measurement including the bow is 16” tall, 24” wide, 2” deep.
Layaway available for full priced items over $500.
