This beautiful and unusual salt dish is carved of red banded agate stone. It sits atop a gilt silver and faceted rock crystal base with four tiny frogs as feet. Turquoise stones are mounted on each side. The bowl is supported by handles cast as serpents with winged dragons on their backs. The serpent's tails wind down and around the stem. There are hallmarks on the bottom of the base as pictured. I have not been able to specifically identify them, but feel they are European, possibly German (Hanau). Overall condition is very good with some detail polishing left to be done. There is wear to the gilding mainly around the base and bowl. There is a tiny fleck on the rock crystal very near the stem and a short 'line' that cannot be felt at the agate bowl rim. There's a little 'wiggle' if you twist the bowl and base, but quite secure. Measurements are 4.5" wide, 3.5" tall. 152 grams. A pretty and fairly rare little thing.
Layaway available for full priced items over $500.
