This pretty pair of early 19th century embroideries has been in the maker’s family until now. They are beautifully stitched with glossy silk and chenille floss on velvet. If you look closely there are some details not immediately apparent. The lush bouquets are done in shades of pink, white, green, blue and golden yellow on a brown velvet ground. Both are housed in old, but not original frames. These look to be perhaps c.1900 and were probably meant to be close in appearance to the originals. The wavy old glass inside them adds to the charm. The embroideries are in very good condition with good color. One has very slight loss to the white floss and a small dark stain at its edge. Lovely and dramatic, rarer as a pair. These would be pretty flanking a mirror or used as sconces.
Overall measurements: 14.5" x 17.25", sight: 11.5" x 14.25".
