Antique red and green quilt in the Carolina Lily pattern c.1860. Such a pretty quilt. The colors are bright, the quilting is beautifully done, and condition is generally excellent. The appliqued pattern was done in a turkey red print and a green print on soft white. The quilt has an overall 1”quilted grid with outline quilting around the motifs. The border is quilted with a .5” diagonal line. All applique and quilting is done by hand. Quilting is at an even 8 to 9 stitches per inch. There is a name written in ink on a fabric label sewn to a corner, probably a past owner(illegible). This quilt is in terrific condition. It seems as if it was washed only a few times. Colors are bright. There are some marks/stains from storage, but the quilt has an overall clean appearance. There is a spatter type brown stain on a corner of the back as shown. Otherwise, the few marks on the front are lighter, the darker ones shown in the photos. There are scattered ‘pops’ in the turkey red print, not too bad. If you look at the close up photos you’ll see some of the dark dots at the center of flowers are missing. The quilt measures about 84” x 84”.
