Antique Victorian Aesthetic period silver plate tea/coffee service with tray c.1878. Gorgeous! This set was made by the Meridan B. Company of Meridan, Ct. It has all the decorative bells and whistles one might expect in an Aesthetic movement design. The bodies of the tea set have graphic bands and chased florals. The spouts feature dimensional birds in flight, the handles have a vaguely Egyptian feel to them. The legs are topped with Bacchus and lady heads. Lids are topped by open finials. The very large tray has a beautiful shape and is decorated to match. The pieces are marked with the Meridan B. Company mark as well as with some style numbers.
Overall condition is very good. There are slight signs of use in the form of surface scratches and plate wear, actually very slight considering the age. The coffee pot and sugar have one very slight dent to the body on each. The hinge of the coffee pot lid has a welded repair as shown in the photos. The tray is a little warped and the center area is raised a bit on each end. Quite usable as you can see, just not perfectly flat. The pot interiors are clean. To give an idea of the size of the pieces the coffee pot is 14” tall to the finial, the waste bowl is 5.75” tall, the tray is 32” over the handles and 20” wide.
Shipping note; Due to the size and shape of this item it will be shipped in two parcels.
Layaway available for full priced items over $500.
