Antique flocked elephant nodder with his saddle blanket, harness, and strapped on basket carriers. This is a very unique and rare example and has been in my personal collection for about 20 years.
German made elephant appears to be made from papier mache and then covered in fine velour. His back and head have finely painted shading. He has glass eyes, inserted tusks, and the end of his trunk is painted pink and has nostrils.
This little fellow is so realistic and just brings a smile. He would work well in a dollhouse setting or in a collection of other miniatures or nodders.
Unmarked but unmistakably German, made in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Condition: very clean and free from cracks or repairs. There is very a tidy stitched reinforcement on the left basket, otherwise he is in very fine condition with no wear to the velour. Nodding head works well and is heavily weighted.
Measures 4 inches long from tail to tip of trunk. He stands 2-1/2 inches tall to his shoulder and 2-7/8 inches tall to the top of his head.
A truly unique, rare, and wonderful miniature for your collection.
