Parian Type Dolley Madison lady doll, 22 inches tall, circa 1860s, includes damaged ball gown to use for pattern.
Gorgeous head (5.75 inches) with painted features and blonde deeply modeled hair with glossy black glazed bow ribbon on top and ribbon band holding the hair close to the head at center back. Painted blue eyes have outlines and white highlights on the right side of the pupils, and deeply modeled eyelids. Irises are outlined in black and the lids have black lash lines and red lid lines, red eye corner and nostril accents, and lips with a darker separating line with the trademark V (belonging to the Alt, Beck & Gottschalck Porcelain Factory) between them. She has pale brown/dark blonde brows and evenly blushed cheeks. Her shoulder plate is unmarked and she has pierced ears.
Her antique cloth body appears to be original to the doll. It is a perfect fit and there is no evidence of prior stitching or fade lines. The body has a wonderful and very full fanny and she sits beautifully. She has leather arms with stitched fingers. Her lower legs have the original blue cotton lower legs to represent stockings and the original blue leather boots stitched on as part of the body. The boots retain the original laces and tassels. The integrated red corset is indicative of the Goldsmith type body.
Her beautiful blue silk gown is truly beautiful but terribly damaged as can be seen in the first photo. It has layers of beaded ruffles and lace, but has shattered badly. It is included as it was beautiful on her and fit like a glove, but would lose more fabric every time it was touched. It accentuates her blue eyes and blue hair bow , earrings and pearl necklace with blue drops. It appears to be vintage made, with older fabrics and laces. She also has lace trimmed undergarments which are antique and I have laundered and pressed them for the new owner (see last photo).
Condition: Excellent: No chips, cracks, or repairs to the beautiful head. A tiny spot of wear on the edge of her bow (pin point size). No wear to either front of back of the head.
Book value full dressed would be in the $900 range depending on the quality of the costume.
