German bisque Bye-Lo baby doll with a most beautiful head which has that "first out of the mold" sharpness and beautiful creamy feel that choosy collectors seek out. The blue glass sleep eyes are even and work beautifully and are in their original setting. The eyes have delicate spiral threading and have a dark outline around the irises. The lid wax is in excellent condition with no chipping but a little darkening from age as is typical. The facial painting is soft and lovely and includes upper and lower individually painted lashes, accented nostrils, and beautifully painted lips, with soft cheek blush and pale soft brows. The molded hair is painted a soft brown and the rolls of fat around the baby's neck are very realistic.
The head had never been removed from the original cloth frog body with composition hands until I did so to inspect the head and eye mechanism. The head will be stuffed with tissue paper to protect the eyes during shipment. If you need an easy re-attachment instruction sheet, please request it at the time of order and I will be happy to include it.
The original cloth frog body is not marked and does have a non-working crier. The composition hands have chipping and the top layer of paint is mostly gone, leaving the pink undercoat which does not detract.
The perfect bisque head is correctly incised: "© 1923 by // Grace S. Putnam // MADE IN GERMANY // 1373/45". Mold number registered to the Alt, Beck & Gottschalck Porcelain Factory.
The baby is dressed in a lovely lace trimmed baby gown with smocking and ruching details over a full slip, flannel shirt, diaper, socks, and booties. She also has a cotton lawn bonnet and a pink crocheted sweater that her previous owner made for her. The costume has overall wear and yellowing from age and should soak out nicely.
Condition: Excellent; perfect head with no chips, cracks, or repairs to the bisque.
Beautiful example of a fine Bye-Lo baby in an excellent realistic size. Head circumference is 12-1/2" and length is 15".
