Sweet little cabinet sized baby doll by Max Oscar Arnold, circa 1880s on.
Ten inches tall with glass sleep eyes in original set, outlined eye cuts with individually painted upper and lower lashes, accented eye corners, nostrils, and lips, lightly blushed cheeks and feathered brows. The modeling and painting of this head reveals that it is of the earlier manufacture by this company, as the later dolls after the 1910s, had harsher and less detailed features. Original mohair wig and pate.
Head is incised: "MOA (inside an 8 pointed star) // 150 // Made in Germany // Welsch // 6/0"
Body is typical composition painted a pinkish flesh tone, with one piece torso and jointed bent-limb arms and legs. Both feet have chips to the toes, the left toes with an old repair. Fingers are all in tact with wear to the pinky of the right hand. There are some old repairs to the back of the torso as shown. I have not attempted to clean the body and if someone were to do that, it would look much better.
The doll wears an old pair of pants, and a vintage hand made slip with lovely hand tatted pink, blue and white hem edging. The gown is also vintage and hand stitched and includes a vintage bonnet with matching lace.
Overall the doll is in excellent condition. No damage or repair to the head and just a nose rub for wear. Eyes are in the original set with lid wax in tact and complete. Body with wear as described and photographed.
Excellent little cabinet sized baby all dressed and ready to display.
