German Character Baby Doll made by Armand Marseille for George Borgfeldt, New York.
This is one of the more scarce molds, seldom seen by collectors and known by baby doll collectors as "Baby Bobby".
Marks: ' Germany // G 328 B // A 5 1/2 M // DRGM 267/1 '. Measurements: 16-1/2 inches long, head circumference 11-1/2 inches. Book value page 238 of ' 200 Years of Dolls ' is $700. This mold is too scarce for listings in Doll Values or Jan Foulke's Guide to Dolls.
The domed bisque socket head is creamy and smooth and there are no chips, cracks or repairs. The seam line is slightly darkened near the shop of the head, and the molded hair center curl has a tiny speck of kiln dust on it. On the back of the head, there is a scrub mark through the center back mark as shown in our photos. The hair is lightly painted and the features, beautifully rendered. The doll has brown spiral threaded glass sleep eyes in the original set and open mouth with two teeth. His chubby little chin is adorable and the overall modeling of the head is excellent.
Five piece baby body is in excellent condition with only minor socket wear. The arms appear to have a light touch-up long ago and the red finger indications are excellent.
Baby Bobby wears a wonderful three piece cotton print outfit with pants, loose top with pocket and Peter Pan collar, and matching bonnet. Underneath he has a pique diaper and crochet booties.
Excellent example of a seldom seen AM mold in excellent condition and ready to show in your collection. Bargain priced at half of book value with no condition issues.
