This is a fine millinery hat block circa 1950s. These were used in the making of hats and wigs and are used today to display wigs and hats. Many shop owners selling hats seek these out. In fact I used it for displaying fashion hats when I used to sell antique hats in my shop. I've also seen these painted in numerous ways. The possibilities are endless.
The head is stuffed firmly and covered with heavy canvas. The neck is wood with a steel insert for clamping to a work table.
Condition is excellent with the only wear being pin marks where hats and wigs were pinned to the surface during the making.
The head stands 10: tall and has a circumference of 20". There is a "20" incised on the wooden base as shown.
These vintage heads are getting harder to find and are usually in poor condition from lots of use during the very popular wig phase of the 1960s. This one has been in my personal collection for a decade and its condition makes it a real find!
Very fine c1950s mannequin head for wig making and hat designing can be used as a hat stand or wig form as well as many other display purposes. Offered below my cost as I am no longer using it and have definitely benefited from its use.
