Six china doll legs described from left to right as photographed:
1. Early slender leg including knee and flat black boot with tan sole, circa 1840 to 1850, measures 2-3/4 inches long including 3-16 inch flange. Paint is worn on the inside edges of the boot and there is a firing pit at mid calf, done in the making.
2. c1860 - 1870 leg with molded ribbed stocking and blue upper garter with black boot with small heel and partial tan sole measures 2-1/16 inches long including 1/8 inch flange. Minor wear to the back of boot, but no other damage or repair.
3. c1880-1890 un-glazed upper leg with horizontally ribbed stocking and glazed brown boot measures 2-1/4 inches long including 3/16 inch flange. No damage or repair.
4. circa 1880s glazed leg with horizontally ribbed stocking and brown garter with fancy bow measures 2-1/4 inches long including 1/4 inch flange. This leg has a repaired boot which was not completed as shown in the photo.
5 & 6. I will call this a "pair" because they came off an 1860's doll body that could not be saved. As shown, the size is matched, but the bows are different in intensity which is very common. Legs measure 1-5/8 inches long including 3/16 inch flanges. One is solid and one is hollow retaining some sawdust. This kind of "almost matched" pairing was very common in dolls assembled by home factory workers who worked very quickly and in poor light. In most cases this would be unnoticed in a dressed doll.
