Early doll size chest of drawers with inlaid banding detail, bone turned knobs and beautiful bracketed feet. Hand made circa 1820s of American Cherry. This is most certainly a one of a kind piece.
The chest is beautifully hand made with all the details of a full-sized piece from the inlaid banding on the top, to the hand-cut dovetail joinery, to the dust covers over each drawer, and the beautiful bracketed feet.
I believe the chest is American made and that the primary wood is cherry, with likely white pine back. The front of the top has beautiful inlaid banding as shown. The top and drawers are all dovetail joined and the drawer bottoms are hand planed with chamfered edges. All drawers have solid dust barriers which reach two-thirds of the way back, which make this an extremely sturdy piece. All woods with the exception of the back, appear to be cherry, even the drawer sides and bottoms and the stringers. The knobs are turned bone.
The finish is silky smooth to the touch. All drawers are in working order with proper fit.
Condition: Excellent with only two notes to bring to your attention. The top knob has the outer ring missing and the bottom knob has a chip off the bottom. One rear bracket leg has a repair done so well that I suspect it was made that way, possibly due to a shorter piece of wood on that side. There is no splintering and it is a perfect match both in finish and grain. Otherwise, very minimal wear to the piece. Please view all photos for minute details of condition.
Measurements: 7-1/2" tall x 5-1/2" wide x 4" deep. Please note that though this is a miniature chest, it is not dollhouse size.
Note: Please, if you are intending to display the chest with your dolls or in a specifically fitted space such as a cabinet, be sure to check the measurements for fit and scale. The last photo shows the chest between a 13 inch doll and a 16 inch doll to give you an idea of the size and scale of the piece. If you need additional suggestions on how to check scale, please feel free to email and tell me your space requirements and I'll be happy to help. The dolls are not included in this listing.
