Early cotton pin stripe doll dress or wrapper, circa 1850 to 1860s, for an early French Fashion doll, china, parian, wax, or papier mache among others.
Dress is beautifully and skillfully made with keen attention to detail and includes piped neck opening and armholes, sweetest of delicate embroidered trim on cuffs and little rounded pockets. There is a woven braided accent trim that is stitched fully around all opening edges; neckline, front button placket, and hem. The front closes with ten (10) tiny and highly unusual THREE HOLE buttons, all of which are identical and original to the dress. Often these wrapper dresses had an inner tie, stitched to the side seams, to take in the fullness at the sides as an optional feature. This one does not, but these ties could easily be added if desired.
Condition is excellent. No tear or holes, completely original presentation. There are several very light stains from storage which should easily soak out.
Measurements: Length from center neck to hem is 14 inches; dropped shoulders between armhole piping 6-1/2 inches across; sleeves 4-3/8 inches long including trim. Cuff opening is 3-1/8 inches around.
