Early wool doll dress, circa 1860s, for a doll about 19 inches tall and shown on our Early Greiner Hairstyle China which is listed separately. This listing is for the dress ONLY. It fits this doll like a glove and she is the perfect model for it. This is from the collection of a very well known doll collector and author of doll research books and articles. The previous owner's identity will be released to the confirmed buyer after the sale for historical provenance of the dress.
The dress is beautifully made with dropped shoulders and fitted bodice with piped accents at waist, neckline and sleeve heads. The pagoda style sleeves are double seamed and curved and have velvet ribbon trim. The skirt has inverted front and back pleats which give a beautiful yet refined fullness to the skirt. There is a bias ruffle at the hem with another row of velvet ribbon just above it. The dress buttons down the back with white glass rosette shank buttons with brass bases. The bodice is lined.
Condition: Very good with some fabric wear as shown in the close ups.
Measurements: Length from center front neck edge to hem of skirt is 14-1/2 inches. Across the dropped shoulders between the piping is 6-3/4 inches (note that the doll modeling the dress has a 5-1/2 inch shoulder plate). Sleeves are 5 inches long on the outside and 3-3/4 inches on the inside seams. Waist is 8-1/2 inches around.
Lovely very early wool doll dress from a well known author of doll books. I have other dresses from this collection to be listed.
