Black Islander Doll by Norah Wellings has GLASS EYES, original costume, cloth tag, and jewelry. Circa early 1930's known as "Dudu" model 119. All velvet including her dress. She stands 12.5 inches tall. She is from the Novelties Series. Her sewn in label on the outfit is a pre-1934 label. A 1930s catalog describes these dolls as having an all velvet head and body with inset blown glass brown eyes
Condition is excellent as shown, with brown velvet covering, RED / BROWN hair in it's original style, and painted features without wear. The eyes are side-glancing glass eyes. She retains all of her wooden jewelry which is dyed orange to match the applique's on her dress. Jewelry includes earrings, necklace, bracelet, and ankle bracelet.
Book value based on 12th Edition Doll Values page 292, is $250 in this size. It is difficult to find these dolls in such fine condition with no facial wear or dents and tag and jewelry in tact.
