Circa early 1900s china doll shoulder head with fancy hairstyle, exposed and pierced ears, and with quality facial painting. This doll is believed to be of Japanese manufacture.
The head is 3-1/4 inches tall from base of shoulder plate to top of head. The shoulder plate is 2-1/8 inches across from shoulder to shoulder and 1-3/8 inches from front to back.
This head is very nicely painted with even features including shaded blue eyes with black lash lines, red lid lines, accented eye corners and nostrils, and red lips. Her cheeks are evenly blushed. One feature that points to the Japanese manufacture, is the light brown eyebrows. The German heads with black hair would have black brows.
Condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a remnant of wire remaining in the right ear, but no damage. This could be soaked out and new earrings inserted. Very minor wear to the hair and generally, an excellent example very finely detailed for a later head.
