Kestner circa 1850 pint tint Covered Wagon hairstyle china head doll, 23 inches tall, beautifully dressed. Sweet would be an apt description for this doll and her expression.
The facial painting is superior with shaded blue irises and white highlights, curved eye corner accents, black lash lines and red lid lines. The boldly smiling lips are slightly separated and nostril dots are oval; her cheeks are highly blushed. She has two tiny kiln specks on her nose as shown. This is from the firing process and is not damage.
The body is clearly original to the doll. It is a home made body with dramatic lady proportions and has the original twine head attachments still in place. As shown, the upper arms have been replaced and this was thankfully done without removing the head. The lower china arms are original or correct and have beautifully modeled hands with pink shading. There is a small stitched patch on the back side of one thigh as pictured. The body is very shapely with a tiny waist and bulky bottom which makes her sit beautifully and jointed knees that pose nicely in a chair if one desires. The toes are stitched tightly.
The doll wears an absolutely wonderful finely patterned cotton dress in a lovely woven strips with shaded stripes alternating. It is two pieces plus the attached sashings in back. The trim is pink and truly compliments her complexion. the bodice buttons in front with five crocheted buttons. Underneath she has pantaloons, chemise, and half slip. The costume has some very light moisture staining in back but no other condition issues.
