Early china head, circa 1850s, 4.25 inches tall, with slender face, very long neck, beautifully defined ears and shapely shoulder plate with hand punched sew holes. Her painted black cap has a very unusual shape to it, with the indication of a center part, yet no actual part line. Most bald chinas with black caps are painted perfectly round. She is an absolutely beautiful example. Her facial painting is exceptional with high color cheek blush, deep blue shaded eyes, black lash lines, red lid lines, accented eye corners, nostrils, and smiling mouth.
These dolls are called bald chinas, wigged chinas, and Beidermeier (Biedermeier) by collectors.
The shoulder head is 4.25 inches tall; 3.5 inches across the shoulders; 2 inches front to back. All measurements taken in a straight line with a ruler, not curved across the shoulders.
The face has no wear or scratching and there are no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a light rub at the back of the neck, likely from her delicate cross necklace she came to me with.
When on the proper body, she would likely measure approximately 15 inches tall.
