This circa 1780 English mahogany snuff box is one the the finest I have had. A simple, pleasing yo-yo or button-top shape, but so beautifully and finely turned. Additionally it is decorated on the exterior bottom and both the interior top and bottom with an engine-turned circle decoration. The whole has a deep rich color and excellent patination.
The snuff measures 2 1/4" in diameter by 5/8" deep and is in very good undamaged condition. There are no chips, cracks or restorations. The mahogany is nicely grained. Quite a tactile piece...just a lovely example of the extraordinary craftsmanship that went into the even the most mundane everyday objects two hundred or more years ago.
The other two snuffs shown in the last photo with this one are also available in our shop.
