A very rare and desirable circa 1800 Scottish mahogany bottle, or wine, coaster of pleasing ogee-form set on original brass and leather bound castors. These wonderful table coasters are discussed on page 61 of 'Treen and Other Wooden Bygones' by Edward H. Pinto and two very similar examples are pictured in Plate 50 of the same book. It is generally believed that these rolling coasters were made by James Mein of Kelso, Scotland.

This handsome piece stands 2 1/4" high, measures 7 1/2" in diameter overall and has a 5 3/4" diameter bottle surface. It is in very good undamaged condition. There are no chips, cracks or restorations. The mahogany has a lovely warm, mellow patina. Such a wonderful example of these hard to find Georgian rolling coasters, especially in such fine condition.

The cut apple-green crystal decanter shown with the coaster is also available in our shop.
