A very pleasing 19th century, heavy gauge brass, pierced tilt-top trivet or kettle stand on nicely turned and slipper-footed Queen Anne-style base.
This superb trivet stands 16 3/8" high when the top is tilted up, 11" high when down, the top measures 11" in diameter and it measures approximately 10" from foot to foot. As mentioned, it is a good quality, heavy gauge brass and the piece weighs an impressive eight and a half pounds, certainly sturdy enough to hold a very large and full kettle. It is in very, very good undamaged condition. There are no breaks, dents or repairs and minor scuffing only. At some time in its history someone has painted it red, however that has been all polished off of the exposed areas of the trivet and there is very little left on the underside. The top tilts up and down easily and sits solidly when up. The brass has a lovely mellow patina and has been hand-polished in the English tradition.
A wonderfully decorative and useful piece...perfect even as a little wine table! I would date this piece to the first half of the 19th century.
