A wonderful late 19th century brass vesta case, or match safe, cleverly modeled as a Brazil nut.
This nicely detailed little nut measures 2" high. It is in excellent, undamaged condition. The lid snaps closed as it should. The striker runs along one side.
Vestas were short wooden or wax matches and were protected from dampness and breakage in delightful little cases such as this and kept handy in one's pocket.
