Offered is a gorgeous and rare collection of miniature plein air oil paintings by well listed California impressionist Walter A. Engelhardt (1893 - 1956). Engelhardt resided in Hollywood, CA and likely sold the small gems to tourists and locals alike. This collection was found in an East coast estate and is in excellent condition. Each painting is still housed in its original frame and the four paintings have been beautifully framed in a contemporary setting complimenting the original frames. The previous owner took care to have a plexiglass backing placed so viewers could enjoy the verso of the painting's frames which were stamped by the artist with his studio address. Also included on the reverse is the location of the scene hand written in the upper left corner of the backing paper.
The original frames each measure approximately 4.5" x 4" with the sight area of the paintings measuring approximately 3.75" x 3.25". The outer frame measures 8.25" x 19.75". From left to right, the scenes are of Burbank, Crater Lake, Laguna, and San Fernando. Each painting was initialed lower right by the artist. Although small, the paintings hold their own and are extremely well done with Engelhardt's signature bright palette. This collection is ready to hang and enjoy and will be the centerpiece of any art collection.
