Vintage Laura Ashley sun dress, cotton, red floral print, 70's.
Nothing more flattering than vintage Laura Ashley. I visited the Laura Ashley store by me at least once a month in the 80's. Laura figured that women looked their best in the Edwardian Era, and I agree.
I did not buy this dress brand new, I have been hunting down Laura Ashley for decades now. I won't give up all my dresses, but I can let go of a few. Stay tuned. I have several of this pattern. Most from the 70's were originally full length. I shortened them all to tea length, easier to wear everyday and more flattering. It's not the maxi era anymore.
The front of the dress is very pretty, graceful scoop neckline, a V waist in front and back with piping, but the real eye catcher, is the back. with the adjustable shoulder straps (buttons) and the bow tie bow at the center. It's a knock out.
This dress has been altered besides the hem. There is a side zipper and on the other side a placket has been added to make the dress bigger. See pictures. The shoulder straps have a tuck and can be made several inches longer. They button into the back and there are two buttons on each strap. There is a pocket!
Bust 38 inches, waist 35 inches, hips free, length shoulder to hem 42 inches. This skirt is so full, it makes an excellent dancing skirt, contra dance, square dance, jitterbug, anything where you get to twirl.
