Hand made lace petticoat, antique slip.
I wore this only on special occasions, special dances. I would put a skirt over it (or pinafore) short enough to show the flounce. I felt like a cast member of "Downton Abby". It is so Edwardian! Perfect to go with your favorite Edwardian Dress!
The flounce is spectacular, look at all those pin tucks, the bands of hand made lace, I can't imagine how long it took to make. The flounce is sewn to the slip and hangs free the rest of the way to the hem.
This is VERY old. It has a few small holes, some light discolorations that will come out with a bleach pen or bleach washing.
The waist band has been modified, instead of a button, ties were added, probably to make it bigger. Right now the waist is adjustable, from 25" up to 30". There will be a gap at over 25", easy to hide with a blouse or skirt.
It is 31" long and the flounce is 16" long. Despite the age, it is still very sturdy and will hold up to more dancing. Would make a great costume piece for your next Victorian play.
They don't make 'em like this anymore.
