Wedding Veil from the 1920's.
Did you see the veil on the premier of the 3rd season of Downton Abbey?? Just like this, only longer! This one is Authentic!!
1920's Wedding Veil! A rare fine indeed. I will also be offering the 20's wedding dress from the same box. (A beaded, rhinestone studded, flapper wedding dress) "My wedding dress & veil" and "Grandma S. Wedding Dress" are both handwritten on the box. This fantastic find came from Missouri.
This was the most popular kind of veil worn at 20's weddings. As the decade went on, the floral wreaths or headpieces became more elaborate to offset the popular "Bob" haircut.
The material is a very soft, very fine silk tulle, trimmed in lace and falls straight down from the head. It is in remarkable shape. There is a small label of some sort with a hand written "2 1/2" on it. There is one mild spot of discoloration (pictured) which would probably come out with a rinse. It is in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners, the style of the day. 35" by 63". I am not going to launder it. I leave that to the new owner or bride.
The wreath is hand made of cloth flowers and leaves, lily of the valley (one of my favorites) and is also in remarkable condition, a couple light marks at most, very little flower loss.
The garter is also trimmed with lily of the valley and ribbons. Un stretched it is about 18" in circumference and the elastic still works, I stretched it gently.
The veil is 35" by 63", off white or cream colored. The headpiece or wreath is adjustable, approximately 6 1/2" diameter.
If you want a vintage bridal veil or vintage wedding, this would be an excellent place to start.
