American sterling silver lettuce fork, c.1890.
We actually had to purchase extra descriptors for this fork, as we didn't have enough words in stock to adequately describe all of its attributes.
To start, the fork is allover gilt and its full length twist handle is shaped into an oval to accommodate an applied, pierced panel with scroll open work, Fleur-de-Lis, crescent, floral and foliate decorations and a Lion body finial, all accented by Turquoise enamel.
Marked only STERLING, the maker is unknown on this special piece is 9 3/8" long and weighs 23 grams.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
