Vintage 1940's Ideal Doc from Snow White All Cloth Doll
Very cool and very desirable circa 1940's Doc cloth doll from Snow White and the 7 Dwarves made by Ideal.
Snow White came out in 1938, and these dolls were made to capitalize on the popularity of the movie. In the US, Snow White and the 7 Dwarves doll sets were made by Seiberling (rubber), Knickerbocker (composition), Krueger, and Ideal. The Ideal dolls were all cloth with molded faces, and had "springs" in their legs so that if you played with them as if they were walking...they would whistle. 2011 book value on an Ideal Dwarf is $350-$450. They are probably the most sought after of the vintage US made dolls.
This example of an Ideal Doc is in pretty good shape for a "played-with" doll of this vintage. He retains his original felt coat, pants and hat. I added a leather belt (much nicer than an original) that I had my hubby make. These dolls look much better with a belt, which is the piece most often missing. The doll is not perfect, and has a few issues. The "DOC" on his hat is a bit worn, he doesn't seem to whistle, he has a spot on his nose as shown in the picture, there is some loss of the coating on his hands, and he has picked up a little dirt in his 75 years or so as a doll. This doll displays well, and is a really good example of this highly sought after doll. He has been priced in consideration of his condition.
