Early Kestner Solid Dome Belton type German Bisque Closed Mouth 14” Doll
Adorable small doll stands 14 inch tall early solid dome Belton type bisque head, circa the third quarter of the 19th century, was definitely manufactured in Germany with a closed mouth, turned head, original blue spiral glass paperweight set eyes. There are no markings on the head but most likely she is an early Kestner doll, she is highly reminiscent of the French character PD dolls of the period with the same asymmetrical chin and fat cheeks. This doll has a white kid gusseted body with lower bisque arms and hands. The body is sturdy, with no current leak problems, but does have some typical settling of the sawdust leading to a slight crouch and some kid repair as pictured. This doll wears gorgeous blue cotton velvet dress and matching silk bonnet over her original antique blonde mohair wig, she also wears lace trimmed full slip and matching bloomers, antique socks and red leather shoes. I love the character expression; she was created in Germany to compete with the French bisque dolls of the same period.
Condition: her bisque has no chips cracks or repairs; her kid body in good original condition.
