Pair of Royal Worcester Female Bacchante Figures
Rarely found together and in such great condition, this pair of Royal Worcester women depict the priestesses of Bacchus, women who joined in the celebration of the feasts of Bacchus, hence a woman addicted to intemperance or Bacchanalian revelry. One of the women is depicted with a tambourine and the other with cymbals. They are 10" high. One is standing before a tree-stump, wearing loose robes, one foot outstretched and holding a tambourine high above her head, on a shaped oval rocky mound base. The other is holding cymbals above her head. Her left foot is in the air behind her as she appears to dance beside a supporting tree stump.
This wonderful pair of figures are in mint condition, NO loses to the gilding. NO chips, cracks, crazing or repairs of any kind. They have been in the same collection for the last 40 years. Both figures bear the Royal Worcester mark and date circa 1900.
