This decorative engraving represents a citrus fruit. It was taken from the book "Hesperides sive de malorum aureorum by "Giovanni Battista Ferrari (Italian, 1584 - 1655). Ferrari joined an important circle of men of science in Rome, and was appointed to manage the new garden at the Barberini Palace which was unique s a showplace for the newest and rarest plants from the distant regions of Asia, Africa and America. While Ferrari was the editor, composer and author, the Hesperides includes eighty botanical plates which were the work of seven important artists of the time and the engravings were done buy Johann Friedrich Greuter and Cornelis Blocmacrt. Very good and dark impression, Etching with in upper right margin plate #335. In very good condition considering its age of 365 years. Measures: 12" L x 7 3/4" W 14" L x 9 1/4" W with margins
