This rectangular, brass case, 1 1/2" X 3" X 5/16" opens to reveal a sundial and compass. The lid lists Latitude, Longitude, Places, and Equations to help the user calculate the time of day. The sundial gnomen pulls up to cast a shadow, and pushes back down, so the case can be closed. Patented in 1921, some of these were made by Ansonia; This one is marked "Outdoor Supply Co." The compass functions, and is marked "Made In France". The case is scratched, (from many trips out of, and into, a pocket), and it does show minor pitting, but it is complete, and the case opens, and closes, beautifully. Almost 100 years old, a very interesting, and functional, object.
