This is a pair of Victorian ebony wood Glove stretchers. Ebony is a dark, almost black, hard wood, very strong, and often used where that strength is required. Gloves, kid gloves were part of the proper lady's wardrobe. Thin leather gloves might shrink. This clever tool was meant to stretch the leather in the narrow finger region. One would insert the tool in the finger hole, depress the handle, and open the jaws, enlarging the finger space in the glove, making them much easier to wear. This one is 9" long and 1 1/2" wide, and is in excellent condition.
