This is a very rare, one of a kind piece from our private collection. It is a Victorian wicker fern stand or fernery. The fernery has a mirror to check your petticoat. The piece is large and substantial. The top comes off of the base. The top is a very generous basket with latticework panels along with a woven panel and a fancy braided edge framing the top.
It has a wood bottom.
The base is very ornate with the original wavy petticoat mirror. There is a decorative arched design in the front that frames an early Victorian chain link design. The mirror is framed by elaborate curlicue designs.
The sides are decorated with elaborate Victorian designs. The back has the same arched design with the same chain link design as the front. The bottom is wood. There are two original heavy metal liners. They retain the original green paint. This very rare piece retains the original green paint with original gold highlights with age appropriate wear. This fine American wicker fernery is in excellent condition with minimal restoration and touch up. The petticoat mirror is an unheard of embellishment leading me to believe this was a custom made piece or possibly an experimental piece.
This ornate Victorian wicker piece is a museum quality example of the Golden Age of Wicker. Circa 1880's. This special collector's piece offers lots of interesting seasonal decorating options.
