This is a rare and exceptional antique Victorian wicker "House " sewing table. It retains the old gold finish. The "House" design is something we have never seen in over 45 years of selling antique wicker. This piece is unique and the fine craftsmanship is evident throughout . It retains remnants of the original Heywood Brothers and Company label. There are lots of charming details throughout this special piece. It has a wonderful handle and thumb latch with beautiful wear to the finish. It has an interesting little bottom shelf with gallery. The bottom includes elaborate designs including decorative reedwork,curlicues, arched supports and decorated splayed legs. The interior is lovely and in perfect original natural finish.
This is an extremely rare example of very early American wicker. It's sure to bring enjoyment for its whimsical Victorian appeal. Circa 1880's.
