This is a very fine example of a Wakefield Rattan Company antique wicker sewing stand. It has a fancy reed-work crest with a swinging beveled mirror.The lid consists of horizontal reeds framed by reed-work along with a fancy reed handle. This shapely sewing stand is made of vertical reeds cut to different lengths to create a very appealing gothic pattern. The sewing stand is adorned with applied decorative reed-work and ends with cane wrapped splayed legs. This sewing stand retains the original natural finish . It also has the Wakefield Rattan Company label. Circa 1880's. Height-40 1/4" 14" x 14"
This very rare Wakefield Rattan Company sewing stand is from our private collection. All money from the sale of items from our private collection will go to pay for very expensive medication that my very sick husband needs to fight colon cancer. It provides useful storage in a small and unique piece.
