Exceptional quality kingwood and tulipwood veneered mid 19th Century French Louis XV Rococo Bureau Plat with gilt bronze caryatids at the top of cabriole legs ending on gilt-bronze mounted sabots. The writing surface is original veneers with inlaid border and framed ormolu rim. Three functioning drawers on one side with exquisite bronze scrolled foliate mounts and three faux drawers on opposite side. Such a lovely bureau plat in original condition is very difficult to find, especially one of this high quality.
The design is inspired by 18th century examples by the master ébéniste Andre Charles Boulle, such as the Bureau du président de Machault, and the Bureau des princes de Condé at Versailles.
