Important rosewood cabinet by Thomas Godey (1820-1879). This piece is beautifully executed in rosewood, with rosewood veneer, ebonized trim, gilt mounts and incised lines, center porcelain plaque and lovely detailed marquetry work. It is the perfect combination of Louis XVI, Neo-Grec and Renaissance Revival detailing. Godey was one of the of the foremost cabinetmakers in Baltimore. The company later became known as Thomas Godey and Son when his eldest son joined the business in 1872.
