Gorgeous French graniteware lavabo fountain top from the 1800s. This water reservoir would have been used for washing before the days of indoor plumbing were common.
With its exquisite décor, the use of this lavabo was certainly reserved for the fine lady of the household. Everything about this early piece from its charming hand-painted floral décor and its teardrop scalloped embossed form to the riveted hanging eyelets and side seams suggests elegance coupled with age.
With pink and green shaded enameling and hand-painted floral décor, this highly detailed, multi-hued work epitomized the top-end graniteware pieces of the era.
The fountain measures about 18" tall from the tip of the lid's knob to the end of the spout and about 13" across at its widest. Note the spout is missing the nozzle water stop.
