This LARGE, magnificent silver-plated brass jardiniere is emblematic of the Art Nouveau era (1890s-1910s), with appealing aesthetics favoring the refined curved lines and motifs so characteristic of this very decorative art style. It is complete with its original, removable copper insert.
Rather impressive, the piece measures a total of 22½" long including the side handles, 9½" at its widest middle and 7¼” high.
The insert is 15" long, 7½" wide, and from 4" to 5" deep. This solid ensemble is also quite heavy, weighing 5.65lbs (2.56 kg).
After decades of service, the original silver-plate coating has rubbed off here and there on the exterior, and has earned a darkened patina in the interior (which I have left it as found). However, this fabulous jardiniere remains in very good antique condition, with no breakage. It is perfectly watertight, with many years of service yet to offer. The copper insert shows verdigris and mineral deposit which can be cleaned if wished.
