Wall-hanging embroidered photo frame dating from the 1920s – early 1930s. It features an ecru base embellished by cross stitch needle point decors showing an openwork tied ribbon and large stylized roses typical of the Art deco period. The contour is enhanced with a cordage completed by a nautical knot atop, used to hang the frame.
This uncommon frame comes with a photo portrait of a bearded sailor (which can be removed). He is dressed in the characteristic uniform of the French Navy, with a striped shirt and a pompom beret in the style of the time. Unfortunately, it is quite impossible to know on which ship the man was serving as the ribbon adorning the beret is very hard to read.
This wonderful frame is in excellent condition, with just some slight discoloration on the back-side and orange threads missing around the photo aperture. The thread holding the cordage at the right of the knot also needs a small repair, which would be very easy to do.
Measurements: 9¼" in diameter, with the photo aperture measuring about 3" x 2¼".
