This vintage French wall-hung salt box circa 1920s, features a heavy white enameling decorated by a light blue mottled “Snow on the Mountain” pattern on the exterior, a cobalt blue trim and the word “SEL” (salt) written in blue lettering (some of which has worn away) on the front panel. The backplate is molded with sun-burst petals and the body of the salt box has ridges and ribs, adding textural interest.
As evidenced in photos, this attractive old piece has limited wear, which includes minor dings to the enamel coating along the bottom edges and around the right hinge hole on the back-plate. The original wooden lid is slightly warped, but moves freely up and down and is bare of any paint, wax or varnish.
