What a pretty vintage sterling ring! This holds a gorgeous, blue larimar stone! I adore the coloring and white matrix of this stone as it looks like the pale sky with wisps of white clouds. The stone is set into sterling silver, It is surrounded by faux blue topaz that are bezel set. It looks like a stylized flower! Sterling dots add more detail. Terrific unique setting. Beautiful!

History: The Larimar stone, which is also known as the dolphin stone and atlantis stone is only found on the island of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Sea. Larimar was discovered in 1916 by a Spanish priest but no mining was done. In 1974 the American Peace Corps Volunteers rediscovered the stone on the beaches of Barahona. Geologists determined that larimar is a rare form of blue pectolite. The quantity at the mine is unknown, which makes the future supply uncertain.
